EFL League One side Portsmouth are seeing the benefits of centre-back Sean Raggett's reconditioning programme, after joining on loan from Norwich City in the summer, reports The News.

Raggett has endured a tough 12 month after breaking his right ankle twice on two separate occasions in the past year but has now worked his way back to full fitness.

The 25-year-old defender, who has spent the past two years on the books of Norwich, has impressed in his two EFL League One starts for Kenny Jackett's side so far this season, winning both games and preventing the opposition from scoring in both games.

Jackett's coaching staff have worked hard alongside the former Lincoln City FA Cup hero, who scored the winner against Premier League side Burnley on their route to the quarter-final in 2016-2017, making sure that he is tactically aware and up to scratch with Jackett's style of play before being trusted to start games.

Jackett said: "We always work individually on players and, for Sean, he has not played for some time.

"He is one that does work particularly hard, not just in the main bulk of the training but individual work.

"He comes back, works in the gym, keeps monitoring his fitness and has a good determination there, which is great to see.

"We have done a lot of work with him, a lot of sprinting, turning, all those type of things, all aspects of centre-half play.

"Whether that be physical, technical or video work – which is tactical – we try to cover everything, to provide the information he needs and the work he needs."

The Verdict:

Raggett is a talented defender who is up to EFL standard and Jackett has been right to wait until the moment is right to start trusting his loan signing as a main starter within his team. Raggett's injury woes of the past year now appear to be behind him and he can start to concentrate on his football again.
